Rome

We arrived in Rome by train on Saturday, May 8, about 2:00 P.M., and walked to our hotel near the train station. We then spent Sunday sight seeing. Here are some pictures:
Jeanie in front of the Hotel Esposizionne.

The Roman Forum.  Now, here are some really old remains.

The Colesium.

Inside the Colesium.  It was started in 72 AD and inaugerated in 80 AD.  I wonder what our football
stadiums will look like in a couple thousand years.

We took a guided tour of the Vatican Museum which included the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo.  We accidentally climbed to the very top of the dome of St. Peter's church. It was 10 stories high!  We had only intended to enter the ground floor.  Sometimes we have a hard time finding what we want to see  The monuments in Rome are numerous and fantastic.

The Pietà in the Sistine Chapel, by Michaelangelo, depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus after the crucifixion.

This is the Gallery of Maps.  The maps were surprisingly accurate considering they were made in the 1600s.
